Sangita Sharma has received numerous awards, the more recent of which are the Pan India Inspire Award for environment conservation/organic biodiversity protection and the Karnataka Women Achiever’s Award. Sangita, affectionately known as the “Jewel of Karnataka” in farming circles, founded Annadana, a movement that promotes the use of non-hybrid, non-GMO seeds, providing relief to farmers who had become reliant on MNCs for chemically-enhanced, expensive seed.
