Arriving at Equilibrium

“Shadow of self creates fear, and from fear comes delusion.”

Chapter 5, Verse 15, Devi Mahatmyam (transid. Devadatta Kali)

Let’s explore the concept of balance and equilibrium according to the Way of the Goddess. According to the Devi Mahatmyam, our shadow selves can lead us down a treacherous path of fear and delusion. Unfortunately, modern society has become about celebrating toxic “shadow masculine” traits like aggression, control, and narcissism, leading us further away from our true selves and deeper into the abyss of suffering and anxiety. When we take on the inner journey, with intention and integrity, we can break free from this narrative and tap into the divine feminine power- Sakti within us. This divine energy is the key to unlocking our essential qualities of compassion, intuition, creativity, and sensuality. By embracing these traits, we can create a life that is truly fulfilling and make a positive impact on the world around us. But let’s not forget about the divine masculine energy, or Śiva, that we also possess within us. It is through the Divine Feminine we can harness the courage, strength, and focus that come with the divine masculine, and can bring our visions and intentions to life. However, we must be careful not to let our egos and desires take over, as this can lead us down the path of suffering once again.

Instead, let’s work towards understanding and embracing all aspects of ourselves, even those that we have repressed or denied. By doing so, we can access our true essence and become the expanded beings we were meant to be. The Way of the Goddess offers us a unique perspective on the nature of our psyche and how we can achieve balance and equilibrium within ourselves. By recognizing and working with our shadow selves, we can tap into the divine feminine and masculine energies within us and become whole once again.

Reflect:
Lets challenge the glorification of “toxic ‘shadow masculine’ traits” like aggression and control. In what ways have you seen this imbalance in society, and how might integrating both divine feminine and masculine energies within yourself offer a path to true fulfillment?
